Description:

Dr. James Kaufman of the Laboratory Safety Institute will be facilitating this training on lab safety and compliance with the OSHA standard. Dr. Kaufman is regarded as the nation’s foremost authority on safety instruction in academia and will provide valuable compliance and safety information that is specific and relevant to the requirements applicable to all laboratories at Texas State University.

This training is intended for all Principal Investigators and, if applicable, their Lab Manager or Lab Safety Officer, who operate a laboratory that uses hazardous chemicals. Departmental Lab Safety Coordinators may also attend.

The seminar covers the OSHA Laboratory Standard as it applies to research and academics at Texas State University. It also covers the Campus Chemical Hygiene Plan requirements and will provide the attendee with the understanding and tools necessary to implement their own Lab-Specific Chemical Hygiene Plan.

The seminar will address how to identify chemical hazards in your lab, how to ensure that lab personnel are properly trained on safe handling of those physical and chemical hazards, and how to maintain a safe work environment.

Certificates for attendance will be provided and this training will count as the attendee’s required annual refresher for Hazard Communication.
