Topic Details

Description:

During this workshop, you will learn about possible sources for financing a trip to present your research at an academic conference. On-campus funding sources, such as the Associated Student Government, academic departments and colleges, and the Office of Sponsored Research and Programs will be discussed. Several off-campus funding sources will also be discussed. Although SURF grants cannot be used for travel to conferences to present research, we will discuss what SURF grants are and how to apply for them.

All of these resources will receive many funding requests from other students, so we talk about how to make your request as competitive as possible. We will also discuss how to make an itemized budget for your trip, which you will need to research and prepare before applying for funding. Finally, we will look at examples of successful proposals for funding written by Texas State University students in the past.

You will leave this workshop with a draft of a grant proposal for your project that you may adapt as you apply for conference travel funding now or in the future.
