Description:

How effective is your website? Are you getting all the traffic you can? Are you turning your visitors into "customers" (new undergraduates, graduate students, faculty or staff)? Does your website rank higher than your competition?

In this 5 to 6 hour workshop you will learn how to optimize your website not only for search engines, but your users as well. In a hands-on approach, working in small groups, you will learn how to attract more visitors. We'll examine and improve your homepage and main landing pages focusing on:

- Identifying your audience.
- Setting your goals.
- Identifying what success means to you and your visitors.
- Creating simple user personas.
- Identifying keywords.
- Free tools to measure your searchability.
- Free tools to improve your SEO.
- Identifying the competition.
- On-Page SEO techniques within our CMS.
- Off-page SEO techniques.

While these tools and tips will focus on external search engines and potential "customers" (perspective students, faculty and staff) the information applies equally well to internally focused websites.

This workshop will be taught by James Buratti, University Webmaster and web nerd since 1994.

***NOTE: Class Duration is 2 Sessions: 3 hours in the morning, 2 to 2.5 hours in the afternoon. Signup is only displaying the first session as the duration.***

What workshop attendees had to say about it:

"Easily one of the most helpful trainings I have been to."
"I love the day long workshops. Seems like it is a long time, but it flew by. We need more of this length."
"I solved problems very quickly yesterday that would have taken me hours to figure out on my own."
"All of the information was useful because I didn't have a clue how to make a website more searchable. I will be utilizing a lot of the information presented as we go forward with web redesign."
