Student-centered has been the default language of higher education for decades. The presenters argue it leaves out the professionals responsible for student learning, and they made a deliberate shift toward a culture centered on academic advisors.
Their case is that advisors who are valued and part of a community of care stay engaged in the profession, which eases burnout and strengthens recruitment, resilience, and retention. The session covers what that culture change required and how to embed it in practice.
