Description:

The Common Experience is proudly partnering with First-Generation Proud and Girls Who Code TXST to host a conversation with Victoria Jordan. Victoria Jordan, Texas State University computer science major ’23, founded Girls Who Code TXST in 2022. From 2017-2018, she traveled extensively through Asia and taught English in Shanghai, China. In 2020, at the age of 26, she enrolled as a student at Texas State University. As a non-traditional, first-generation student, Victoria faced unique challenges to her student success.

Join us for an engaging dialogue on how to better support non-traditional and first-generation students by drawing on learners’ personal experiences and unique situations, and utilizing mentoring for not only academic success—but professional development

Hosted by the Common Experience, The Navigation Series for the Systems Thinking theme recognizes the unique challenges and experiences of TXST students. The series celebrates their student success and intersectionality. We encourage the Texas State University and San Marcos community to join us and engage in meaningful dialogue on how to better support students.

This free event is open to all students, staff, faculty, and the public. If you require accommodations due to a disability in order to participate, please contact 512-245-4162 at least 72 hours in advance of the event or email Camrie Pipper, cp1292@txstate.edu.
