You are invited to a Faculty Showcase event on November 16, 2012 at noon on the topic of Flipping Your Course. The event is sponsored by Instructional Technologies Support (ITS).
Our featured speaker is Dr. Brenda Boucher who has spent years perfecting her physical therapy courses so that students can spend more time with hands-on practice and less time listening to her lecture. Her “flipped” course provides lecture information to students through short targeted videos and accompanying guide sheets, as well as short lectures from experts in the field of physical therapy. Class time is used mainly for discussion, questions and hands-on practice of physical therapy techniques.
This method of teaching changes the paradigm of students as passive receivers of course material to students as active and involved learners. Student reaction has been overwhelmingly positive and Dr. Boucher has found student learning has improved.
Boucher is a Clinical Assistant Professor in the Department of Physical Therapy at Texas State University, who teaches graduate students enrolled in the physical therapy doctoral program.
In this session, Dr. Boucher will describe her current flipped course and the four-year journey she has taken, with multiple revisions along the way, to get to where she is now. She will then take questions from the audience.
This is a brown bag event, so bring your lunch and come and spend an hour with Dr. Boucher as she shares her valuable experience in using a flipped course strategy.
Water, soft drinks and cookies will be provided. Plan to arrive by 11:45am or earlier as the program will begin promptly at noon.
There is a limit of 50 attendees for this event.
