This interactive workshop provides a review of the faculty hiring process with an emphasis on inclusion and diversity. Based on the newly-developed Toolkit and Best Practices for Inclusive Excellence in Faculty Hiring and Retention, the presentation will focus on policies and procedures to increase the quality and diversity of applicant pools, reduce inconsistencies in assessing applicants, and eliminate differential treatment.
Specific topics to be discussed include the following:
• Roles of the search committee chair and members
• Steps in building a recruitment plan
• Advertising and recruiting
• Assessment process
• Candidate visits/interviews
• Candidate selection
• Extending and negotiating an offer
