Topic Details

Topic:
Stop the Bleed
Description:

Stop the Bleed began as an initiative of the American College of Surgeons following the Sandy Hook Elementary School shooting in 2012. The program’s goal is to help bystanders assist injured persons in any type of emergency and potentially save lives by controlling life-threatening bleeding.

“We want to empower bystanders to save lives by teaching proper bleeding control techniques, such as use of pressure and tourniquets,” San Marcos/Hays County EMS Administrative Training Lieutenant Katie Contreras told the Court.

This class will discuss how to respond in an emergency, tourniquet application, wound packing, and airway management. Class format includes a short lecture and lots of hands on practice.
