Title: Edge Computing
Speaker: Dr. Alexandre Ferreira
Date: Friday, March 6, 2020
Time: 1:00 p.m.
Location: Flowers Hall 229

Abstract:

Edge computing and Smarter cities has become the new frontier of IoT. The expected increase in complexity of the IoT ecosystem with multiple integrated applications, higher usage of ML and complex lifetime propelled Arm Research to develop an infrastructure that supports those applications. This presentation shows that cloud native development and deployment model can be applied to edge computing and the Smart Cities is shown as an example of how the model can be useful. Limitations of the current solutions in security, resource management, application deployment model, ML, device integration, multi-tenancy, data brokering and other are presented as interesting areas to research.

Bio:
Alexandre Ferreira is currently at Arm Research working in the SMARTER project. He got his PhD in Computer Science from University of Pittsburgh in 2011 and worked at IBM Research (Austin Research Lab) for 7 years.
At Arm he is responsible for edge computing aspects of the SMARTER project. At IBM he worked on SCM, power management and cloud computing.
