Students tell academic advisors things they haven't told anyone else. Advisors aren't licensed clinicians, but they are often the trusted person a student reaches first, which makes the quality of that moment matter.
This session builds on the five principles of trauma-informed care: safety, trustworthiness, choice, collaboration, and empowerment. All five are relational, and the practical challenge is enacting them in a real conversation under pressure. Participants work on techniques for exactly that.
