Event Description: Learn how hidden communication expectations influence perceptions of competence and leadership, and gain practical strategies for navigating workplace norms.
•Speaker: Dr. Chris Dayley, Associate Professor
•Speaker Bio: Dr. Chris Dayley is an associate professor of English and director of the Master of Arts in Technical Communication program at Texas State University. His research examines ethics, social justice, and access in professional and institutional communication, including how hidden expectations shape perceptions of merit, professionalism, and belonging. His scholarship has appeared in leading technical communication journals and Routledge handbooks on ethics and social justice. Before joining the faculty, Chris spent 13 years in student affairs, working in admissions and recruitment, student involvement, academic advising, distance education, and student support. He also managed a large university testing center, where he supervised approximately 50 employees. Chris has worked in higher education for nearly 20 years and holds a PhD in Technical Communication and Rhetoric from Utah State University. His work combines academic research with practical experience in leadership, communication, and organizational decision-making.
