Social media has quickly become a necessary part of life. Facebook, Twitter, Pinterest and Instagram are just a few of the tools that we now use to stay in touch with friends and family, complete school assignments, receive news and information and entertain us in our spare time. We have all encountered businesses and professional organizations in our social media usage. How do professional organizations use social media, and how can you - as a professional - leverage social media to your advantage for your career? In this brown bag session, you will learn effective ways to use social media for job hunting, developing a professional network and staying updated on trends. We’ll also discuss how to avoid the pitfalls of a social media presence, so you can put your best foot forward with your personal brand.
The brown bag will be led by Dr. Cindy Royal, Associate Professor of Digital Media in the School of Journalism and Mass Communication. Dr. Royal is currently in residence at Stanford University on the Knight Journalism Fellowship.
