Topic Details

Description:

This Shop Talks session is for prospective applicants to the Critical Language Scholarship and/or Boren Awards programs, both of which provide opportunities for graduate students to study foreign languages overseas. The Critical Language Scholarship (CLS), a program of the U.S. Department of State, is a fully-funded, intensive language and cultural immersion program offered during 8-10 week summer sessions and is designed to promote rapid language gains. Boren Fellowships, an initiative of the National Security Education Program, provide up to $30,000 for U.S. graduate students to study less commonly taught languages in world regions critical to U.S. interests, and underrepresented in study abroad, including Africa, Asia, Central and Eastern Europe, Eurasia, Latin America, and the Middle East. (In exchange for funding, Boren Fellows commit to working in the federal government for at least a year after graduation.) Learn everything you need to know about the application process, including eligibility requirements, program preferences, and benefits.

The content for this Shop Talks session is tailored for master’s/doctoral students.
