Student motivation is a key factor underlying student success in college. In this workshop, we will explore the age-old question on how to motivate students and highlight one piece of the motivation puzzle – students’ sense of responsibility and attribution beliefs. An overview of theory and research on attribution retraining interventions will be presented. Special emphasis will be given to easy-to-implement classroom activities that faculty can facilitate with their students to help improve their students’ sense of responsibility, attribution beliefs, and motivation.
