You are invited to a Faculty Showcase event on April 10, 2015 at noon on the topic of "Using Lessons in an Online Course". The event is sponsored by Instructional Technologies Support (ITS). Our featured speaker is Dr. Ray Niekamp from the School of Journalism & Mass Communication.
Niekamp is an Associate Professor who teaches Video Production and Management of Electronic Media. Niekamp worked in television news for 16 years in various positions including as an assignment editor, reporter, producer, photographer and occasional anchor before becoming an instructor.
This semester, he is teaching a fully online course titled “Digital Media Issues”. Teaching this course in an online format required Niekamp to revise his face-to face version of the course so that course content would be available to students online in TRACS.
Niekamp uses a tool in TRACS called Lessons which allows you to create a sequence of course materials on web pages. You add course content to each web page, by including text, images, video, and links. In addition, you can link from a Lessons page to an existing assessment, forum discussion or resource.
Niekamp will provide a short presentation on his course and will discuss the process he used to convert his course from an in-person class to one in which course content is presented online in Lessons. He will also take questions from the audience.
This is a brown bag event, so bring your lunch and come and spend an hour with Dr. Niekamp as he shares his valuable experience in using Lessons in an online course.
